Leadership by Emerson

Fantastic leadership advice from Ralph Waldo Emerson’s “Society and Solitude” (excerpted from Chapter 11: Success)…

Don’t hang a dismal picture on the wall, and do not daub with sables and glooms in your conversation. Don’t be a cynic and disconsolate preacher. Don’t grumble about and bemoan… Nerve us with incessant affirmatives. Don’t waste yourself in rejection, nor bark against the terrible, but chant the beauty of the excellent.

To awake in man and to raise the sense of value, to educate his feeling and judgment so that he shall scorn himself for terrible action, that is the only aim.

‘Tis cheap and simple to ruin… Yes, this is simple; but to help the young soul, add energy, inspire hope and blow the coals into a useful flame; to rescue defeat by new thought, by firm action, that is not simple , that is the work of divine men.

(How cool is Google for making it doable to give you this? Real cool.)

Now go lead someone.~>
